1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using SkillSwap Local ("the Platform", "the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Platform.
These Terms apply to all users of the Platform, including visitors, registered users, and administrators.
2. Who can use SkillSwap Local
You may use SkillSwap Local if:
- You are at least 13 years of age
- You provide accurate and truthful information when creating your account
- You have not previously been banned or suspended from the Platform
- Your use of the Platform complies with all applicable laws and regulations
By creating an account, you confirm that all information you provide is accurate and that you will keep it up to date.
3. The SkillSwap model — no money exchanges
SkillSwap Local is built entirely on skill-for-skill exchanges. No money, goods, or monetary value may be exchanged between users through the Platform.
All skill swaps must be:
- Mutually agreed upon between both parties
- Legal and appropriate under Nepali law
- Skill-based — teaching, coaching, advising, or demonstrating a skill
Any attempt to use the Platform to charge fees, sell services, or exchange money will result in immediate account suspension.
4. Your account and security
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials secure and confidential
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Notifying us immediately at hello@skillswaplocal.com if you suspect unauthorised access
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that show signs of compromise or misuse.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use SkillSwap Local to:
- Post false, misleading, or fraudulent skill listings
- Harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate other users
- Solicit money, gifts, or any form of payment from other users
- Spam other users with unsolicited messages or requests
- Post content that is offensive, discriminatory, pornographic, or illegal
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your qualifications
- Use the Platform for commercial recruitment or job advertising
- Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Platform without written permission
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Platform or its infrastructure
- Upload malicious code, viruses, or any software designed to harm the Platform or users
6. Content you post
You retain ownership of any content you post on SkillSwap Local (your profile, bio, skill listings, and messages). By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and distribute that content on the Platform for the purpose of operating the service.
You are solely responsible for the content you post. We do not endorse or verify the accuracy of any user-posted content.
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or that we deem harmful to the community, at our sole discretion.
7. Skill swaps — disclaimer
We are not responsible for:
- The quality, accuracy, or outcome of any skill exchange
- Any disputes between users arising from a swap
- Any harm, injury, or loss resulting from meeting another user in person
- A user failing to honour a swap agreement
We strongly recommend meeting in public places for in-person swaps, especially for first meetings. Always use your judgement and trust your instincts.
8. Paid plans
SkillSwap Local offers optional paid subscription plans (Premium, Pro, Business) that unlock additional features. By purchasing a plan:
- You agree to pay the listed price in Nepali Rupees (NPR)
- Subscriptions are billed monthly and auto-renew unless cancelled
- Refunds are available within 7 days of purchase if no premium features have been used
- We reserve the right to change plan pricing with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers
Payment processing is handled by third-party providers. We do not store your payment card details.
9. Advertising
SkillSwap Local displays advertisements through Google AdSense. These ads are served by Google and are subject to Google's advertising policies. We do not control the specific ads displayed and are not responsible for their content.
You agree not to click on ads artificially or encourage others to do so, as this violates Google's policies and could result in termination of our advertising account.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or if your conduct harms the community.
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at hello@skillswaplocal.com. Upon deletion, your profile and listings will be removed, though some data may be retained for legal or safety purposes for up to 90 days.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SkillSwap Local and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of data, personal injury, or financial loss — arising from your use of the Platform or any skill exchange conducted through it.
The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Nepal. Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms or your use of SkillSwap Local shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Kathmandu, Nepal.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will notify users by email or by a prominent notice on the Platform. Continued use after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
